The Dream-Dark Sky

A short piece on the night sky and how it reflects the larger cosmos of Telrhin. More than a map of stars and the solar system, it tells the story of the world.

The sky above is dark and thick with stars, rich and vibrant and full of life.

A velvet dark ceiling, gathered around the black void at the center: the Womb, the Well of Dreams, the dream-dark source of all things.

The three moons find their place too: Luna the red goddess, Tala the grey, and Mashana the broken moon that circles the great dark world of Orh heavy in the skies above.

A window into the Umbra, the world beyond, the stars as the glistening domains of the gods.

Other worlds share these same dream-dark skies, these same domains of distant gods. Not just pendulant Orh that blights the light of the sun, so close overhead you can glimpse the clouds, the storms, the seas. But green Kithra, marbled Illom, and far distant blue Muan.

They say you can reach them beyond the seas. Slip our world of Telrhin and reach through the void of endless night to those other worlds.

This, more than anything, tells the story of the world. Of Telrhin. Of the Great Dream and how it sundered. Of Syr and Hael, the Great Gods who dreamed it all into being.
